El turismo español previo al boom no es ni el de las cifras millonarias, ni el del gran negocio nacional, sino el de la exploración de temas profundamente arraigados en la época como el descubrimiento de la nación, la nueva relación del cuerpo con los placeres al aire libre, la ambición europeizadora, los sentimientos de identidad, la imagen de España en el mundo y la sensación de movimiento y velocidad. Es también una oportunidad para revisitar unos años fundamentales en la construcción moderna de España de la mano de los que la miraron y la «reelaboraron» con otros ojos: sus turistas.
